The Dairyland Walkers

The Madison Area Volkssport Association "Dairyland Walkers", an affiliate club of the American Volkssport Association (AVA), is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status.  Our sole purpose is to promote physical fitness by sponsoring non-competitive sports events in safe, stress-free environments.

The Dairyland Walkers sponsor year-round and seasonal walks as well as special one or two day events.  Year-round and seasonal events can be done any time by going to the designated start point, registering, getting the map and route directions and doing the walk.  Although walks are the principle activity of the Madison club, bike, swim and cross-country skiing events may be sponsored on occasion.  All events are non-competitive. You participate at a pace that is safe, comfortable and enjoyable for you.

As with many volkssport clubs, the Dairyland Walker allow participants to do an event for free if they do not desire an award and do not wish IVV/AVA credit.  They must, however; register, carry and return a completed official Start Card.

Who May Participate? Anyone may participate.  You don't have to be a member of a Volkssport club, but we'd love to have you.  (More information about joining the Madison club here.)  There are no age restrictions.  Children under the age of 12 are to be accompanied by an adult, and a waiver must be signed for minors to participate in the bike event.

Registration: You register by signing the log book at the START LOCATION listed for each event, pay fees if credit is desired, complete a start card, and take a map with directions.  Even if you participate for free, the start card must be carried during the event and turned in at the finish.

Event AwardsEvent Awards: These are pins, patches, etc. designed for a specific event.  An "A" award is one for the current year.  A "B" award was designed for a previous year or for a different event.

Fees:
"A" Award and IVV Credit --- $7.00. (May vary depending on award.)
"B" Award and IVV Credit --- $5.00.
No Award, IVV Credit only -- $3.00.
No award or credit ------------ Free
.
Trail Ratings: All AVA sanctioned walk and bike events have a trail difficulty rating assigned to the route.  The rating is in two parts.  The first part is a numeric value (1-5) that describes the total cumulative amount of incline along the route.  The second part is an alphabetic value (A-E) that attempts to describes the terrain the route passes through.  Rating guidelines.

Amenities: Water and rest rooms are available at the starting point of all events and sometimes on the trail.

Disclaimer/Stipulations:  Madison Area Volkssport Association, the AVA, and starting point businesses are not liable for accidents, thefts, personal injury and/or material damage.  All attempts will be made to create a safe and enjoyable event.  Participants accept the guidelines of AVA Volkssport events and agree to observe the principles of good sportsmanship.  Each participant is asked to sign a waiver from liability before the walk.
