American Authors &
Literary Landmarks -
July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2011
Only 15 events to complete volume one. Any sanctioned trail that
features the following: places you read about in a book, cemetery
where an author is buried, house where an author was born, lived or
wrote, etc. If you find the connection then it counts.

American Revolution -
April 1, 2004 to December 31, 2008
Walk 15 sanctioned walks. Qualified walks go by a site of
significance to the Revolution such as battlefields, encampments and
fortifications. Complete a second book of 15 walks and get a "30
Walks" pin.

Cemetery Stroll -
July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2009
Walk 40 events that go through, around or by any cemetery.

College Campuses - This program offers an Associate
Degree in Walking, a Bachelor Degree and then a Master's, and last but
not least a Doctorate of Walking. For an additional 20 events
achieve the level of Road Scholar.

Courthouses in the USA
- January 1, 2007 to December
31, 2009 Walk 30 sanctioned
events that pass by or through a federal, city, state, county or
historic courthouse. Walk only one event in each city.

Covered Bridges
- January 1, 2007 to December
31, 2011 Walk 12 sanctioned events that pass within sight of or
through a covered bridge, which is defined as authentic structures
originally constructed for motorized vehicular traffic, or two-legged
and four-legged traffic. Bridges that have been relocated from their
original site to park locations or have been re-built from an original
predated bridge due to earlier loss from arson, floods, etc.,
qualify. Each covered bridge may only be stamped once upon completion
of the walk. However, if an event includes two or more bridges, a
stamp may be awarded for each bridge provided the event is walked a
separate time for each stamp. Covered bridges in Canada also
qualify.

Great Lakes -
January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2009
Complete 10 walks along the shore of a Great
Lake. Only part of the trail needs to be on the shore. Also, the
walker must walk an event at three different Great Lakes.

Islands -
June 1, 2007 to December 31, 2010 Walk 20 events. Qualifying
events must be at least partially routed on a named island. The
island can be in a river, lake or salt water. Land masses recognized
as once being an island and still named island also qualify.
Participating stamp may be entered only once per calendar year.

Lighthouse USA - April 15, 2004
to December 31, 2008. Any sanctioned AVA
event in the USA that allows the sighting of a lighthouse qualifies
for this program. 12 stamps will earn a certificate and impressive
patch.

Native American Culture - June 1, 2007
to December 31, 2010
Walk 25 events. Must walk through a
community with the name of a particular Native American or tribe; walk
by a body of water, battlefield, park, museum or pass by a statue,
home or burial site. Street names, advertisements, casinos, and
school mascots do not qualify.

Pony Express -
2006 - 2010
Walk one event in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah,
Nevada, California -- the route of the Pony Express.

Railroad Heritage
- January 1, 2006 Runs indefinitely.
Walk, bike or ski 25 events that follows a
former rail bed or passes a railroad station or structure formerly or
currently used for passenger and/or fright service.

Riverwalk America
- January 1, 2006 Runs indefinitely.
Walk, bike or ski 20 events that follows or crosses a body of water
whose name ends in the word "River".

US Presidents -
Begins July 4, 2004 to July 4, 2009. Complete 15
events anywhere in the United States where an event or activity
occurred in relation to 15 different US presidents, e.g., library,
home, birthplace, or final resting place.

USA State Parks
- January 1, 2007 to December
31, 2009 Walk 30 sanctioned events in
a state park within the USA. Walk only one event in each state park.

Walking Europe in the United
States - January
1, 2005 to January 2009 Walk 20 events in US cities
that have a European counterpart in name and earn a patch.

Walking the USA A - Z -This program challenges you to
complete 26 walks, anywhere in the USA, to earn this special award.
Each event's start location/town must begin with a different letter of
the alphabet (example: Washington, DC counts as a "W" walk).

Counties - Walk all 72
Wisconsin counties. Any AVA sanctioned walk event that is
entirely within one county qualifies. This book is provided free of
charge. No additional fees required to participate. This program is
solely under the operation of the Madison Area Volkssport Association
“Dairyland
Walkers” with participation of
other clubs. |
Winery & Brewery
- March15, 2005 to December 31, 2008. Complete 15
events that pass by a brewery, winery, distillery or restaurant that
brews beer, ferments wine or distills sprits on the premises.
