DAIRYLAND WALKERS MONTHLY MEETING
WILLY STREET CO-OP
APRIL 10, 2001
Officers Present: Tom Doyle (President); Karen Reger
(Secretary); Bob Sparks (Treasurer); Russ Crane (Assistant Treasurer)
In Attendance: 25
Our very own Jo and Bob Sparks gave a
slide presentation of a trip they took last year to England and
Scotland. After landing in London, they rented a car and drove away
from the city, having previously done walks there. They then did ten
British Walking Federation walks in ten days. They handed out
information that they had gotten from the Internet prior to doing the
trip.
Russ Crane gave the Treasurer's Report,
a copy of which is attached.
Volunteer sheets were passed out for
the upcoming Syttende Mai and Owen Conservation Park walks.
Ron Moore had taken club information
packets to a West Washington Wellness Fair and the State Tourism
Department had asked for all the packets that he had left over.
Richard and Judy Fritz have volunteered
to lead a Tuesday night Walk a Week, from April 17 to October 30.
These will consist of four alternating year-round walks along with the
seasonal Picnic Point walk. If you question whether the walk will be
held due to the weather, phone Judy and Richard at 222-8247.
The Stores Department has more
Starting Points.
This is the last day for ordering club
shirts and Ruth Pederson was busy taking last-minute orders.
The club may have another bus trip this
year, going to Port Washington first, and then stopping in Cedarburg
on the way back. Those who don't wish to do two walks in one day
would thus have an opportunity to shop or eat in Cedarburg.
Tom Doyle is going to do an
Introduction to Syttende Mai walk on May 6, which will consist of the
Picnic Point and Capitol walks. Starting time is 9:00 a.m. at Lot
60.
It was decided that our Adopt-a-Highway
trash pickup day would be on Sunday, April 22, starting from Nora's II
at 1:00 p.m.
Ruth Pederson was asked if she would
represent our club at a few meetings at the upcoming convention in
Washington. The club is still considering a state basket of goodies
for the convention.
There will be no May meeting.
Jerry Wilson had an article about the
Syttende Mai event published in the April issue of The American
Wanderer. It was titled "Syttende Mai in Wisconsin," but was
listed under Nebraska.
It was mentioned that the Menominee
River Volkssport Club from Niagara, Wisconsin, has a seasonal 11K walk
in Marinette from May 30 to December 31.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30,
whereupon club members enjoyed a banana snack cake that Ruth Pederson
had brought.
