Meeting

brief meeting as Jerry Wilson was unable to be present until the
program was underway.
Introductions
People introduced themselves, indicating what office they held in
the club, when appropriate. There were several visitors who came
because of the nature of the program.
Treasurer's Report
At the last Board meeting, on July 10,
the club had a balance of $10,589.38. The present balance, as of
today, is $10,154.53. Of that amount, $7,374.32 will be used for the
upcoming Mackinac bus trip, thus leaving an uncommitted balance of
$2,780.21.
Volunteer List
Barb Borde passed around a volunteer
sign-up sheet for the club's next one-day walk, at the Middleton Good
Neighbor Festival.
Fall Night Walk at Governor Nelson State Park
Don Suloff indicated tentative starting
times for the walk at Governor Nelson in October:
Slower 10K walkers – start at 6:30 p.m.
Faster 10K walkers – start at 6:45 p.m.
5K walkers – start at 7:00 p.m.
Program
After an introduction by Jo Sparks,
Angie Sparks led the group into Curtis Prairie. As she was pointing
out various prairie plants, Bob and Jo handed out cards with
illustrations of the plants as well as a short description. At the
end of the walk, the cards were able to be put on a ring, making it
convenient for people to carry the cards and refer to them in the
future. Some of the plants that were pointed out were big blue stem,
bergamont, wild indigo, and blazing star.
After the walk, some of the group drove
to the Sparks' home and partook of delicious watermelon. Several
other club members joined us there.
