Treasurer's Report – Russ Crane
The balance at the Board meeting held
last month was $2,593.75. Since that time, income has totaled
$821.00. Part of that amount includes $109.00 from dues, $246.00 from
the year round and seasonal events, $151.00 from the two special
events (Cancer Memorial and Syttende Mai), and $200.00 from the sale
of frequent walker coupons.
Expenses have totaled $1,095.79, which
included a state filing fee. Also included was $185.68 for the
printing of bookmarks to promote our club which will be taken to the
convention for distribution. The Middleton Good Neighbor Fest walk
was sanctioned. The quarterly Internet fee was included, in the
amount of $60.14. The total balance as of today is $2,318.96.
A question was brought up as to how
often the expenses are greater than the income, which is what happened
during this past month. Russ didn't know offhand, but the amounts
vary from month to month.
The Treasurer's Report was accepted.
Program
Jill Ruef introduced the speaker for
the evening, Andrew Hanson, who has worked for the Ice Age Park and
Trail Foundation for about the last seven years. This organization
was founded in 1958 to develop a trail system following the edge of
the last glacier in Wisconsin. When complete, the trail will be 1,000
miles long. They are still in the process of land acquisition and
getting permission from landowners to have the trail go through their
property. It was declared a National Scenic Trail in 1980. There are
eight people on the staff, but the trail is being worked on almost
entirely by volunteer workers. At this time of year, work is being
done on the trail somewhere in the state every weekend. For more
information, their website is www.iceagetrail.org. There is a
guidebook coming out in July which will describe the various sections
of the present trail and listing services along the trail.
Interstate State Park is at the western
end of the trail, with it then going down to Devils Lake State Park,
on to Janesville, up through the Kettle Moraine State Forest and it
ends at Potawatomi State Park in Door County.
There is a collection of B&B's either
located on the trail or close to it, who are part of a program wherein
they will provide hikers with a shuttle to and from the trail, for a
fee.
Andrew also mentioned that part of the
trail goes through the city of Lodi, and if we would be interested in
having a walk there, he could help with finding a starting point where
the walk box could be located.
