Karen forgot to bring along paper
copies of the last general club meeting minutes – no action was taken
on this report.
New Member
New member Chris Gross was present.
She has been doing some of the Tuesday night walks.
Upcoming Walks
Middleton Good Neighbor Fest –
Bruce Dewey
This walk will be held this coming
Saturday, the 23rd. It will start at the same place as last year, the
Boy Scout tent at the back of Firemen's Park, near the restrooms. The
start will be from 7:30 to noon. Bruce passed around a volunteer
sign-up sheet for this event. There will be a workers' walk on Friday
afternoon.
Jefferson Gemuetlichkeit Walk –
Jerry Wilson
This will be held on Sunday, September
14.
Camp Wawbeek Walk (Wisconsin
Dells) – Bruce Dewey
This will also be held on a Sunday.
Brochures for this walk are available on one of the tables. The walk
will be entirely on the property of the camp. There will be a picnic
afterwards, with Tom Doyle being the chef and the Wilsons bringing the
food.
Cambridge Walk – Barb Borde
This will be held on November 1.
Picnic Point Walk – Bruce Dewey
Bruce mentioned that road construction
was being done in the area of the parking lot that's adjacent to the
path going to Picnic Point. This should not affect the walk at all.
It was to be completed in three weeks. This walk will not be
sanctioned for next year – in its place will be a combination of the
Nakoma special event walk and the Civil War special event walk held
several years ago. It will be a seasonal and will start from the same
place as the Picnic Point walk, the Best Western Inn Towner.
Good Neighbor Fest Walk– Bruce
Dewey
Bruce had indicated in the past that he
might not do this event again next year, but he said that it was still
open for discussion.
Refreshments
Various people brought snacks and
drinks, which were very welcome.
Program
Barb Borde introduced the speaker, Elke,
from Ed-Ventures, Inc. of Rochester, Minnesota. She was here to
present a program about a possible European walking tour that could be
designed for our club. She suggested a tour that would go to Germany
and Austria, and showed slides of possible destinations. She would be
in contact with volkssporting groups in these countries to design a
walking plan. At this point, no definite cost could be given,
although $2,500 to $2,900 could be a guideline. She likes to go on
the tours herself. People would be transported by bus and stay in
family-run hotels and eat local food. She would like to include a
cruise on the Rhine, with sightings of many castles. This would
include two full weekends so we could perhaps do some weekend walks
along with the Germans and Austrians. She would like to include some
cultural and historical destinations along with the walks. The walks
would not be climbing up mountains, but would be more in the valleys.
Breakfasts and dinners would be included, but not the cost of walking
awards. She thinks September would be a good time to go. Non-walkers
or those who don't want to do every walk would be welcome to come
along. Four to five hours is usually allowed for the walks. Most are
10Ks, but some events are starting to offer 5Ks. All walks would be
approved and you can get stamps for them.
Door Prize
Jerry Wilson won the door prize, and he
picked out a New Balance shirt.
The meeting ended at 8:07 p.m.
