Pre-Meeting
People who had gone
on the Germany/Austria trip had pictures on display. The club awards
from the trip were also on exhibit.
Refreshments were
provided, including some lard sandwiches which the McCrills brought.
June Doyle passed
around a sign-up sheet to get an idea of how many would be interested
in taking a bus trip out to the Crazy Horse walk in June of next
year. This was just to gauge what the interest level might be.
Meeting
The meeting started
at 7:15 p.m., with Tom McCrill presiding. He mentioned that Ted and
Virginia Newell had recently become members, and Terry Wendt joined
that night.
Secretary's Report (Karen Reger)
Karen had several
paper copies of the minutes of the August 5 membership meeting
available. These minutes were accepted with no discussion.
Treasurer's Report
(Russ Crane)
Income & Expense Summary
The balance at the
last Board meeting on September 23 was $2,664.67. Since
then, income has totaled $778.25 and expenses have totaled
$866.62. The balance at the present time is $2,576.30.
For income, $139.00
came from dues, $363.00 came from year-round and seasonal events, and
$186.25 came from special events. The entry for Fond du Lac ($51.25)
is the amount that our club took out of the total
walkers fees
which
we
will
eventually have to
pay the AVA as this walk was sanctioned by our club.
For expenses, there
were two large expenses out of the total of $866.62. One was
for an order of pewter club logo pins which cost $388.50, and
the other was $244.00 for the purchase of inventory items (new walker
packets, distance and event books, etc.).
It was asked how many walkers did the Fond du Lac walk, and
it was believed that the total was 77.
Walk-a-Week
(Tom McCrill)
This is now done for
this year. There were about 5-10 walkers every week during the
season.
Walk and Eat Gang
(Barb Borde)
The last walk of this
year will be next Thursday at Devil’s Lake. Meeting time is 10:15
a.m., with the walk to begin at 10:30. If anyone would like to car
pool, please call her. This will be a guided walk by a naturalist,
and it should be peak color.
Highway Cleanup
(Tom Doyle)
This will take place
on October 24, again starting from Nora’s II at 1:00 p.m. This is a
two-mile stretch, and the more people there are, the quicker it goes.
Newsletter
(Bonnie Hamer)
The newest one was
just recently sent out.
Membership
(Tom Doyle)
Tom indicated that he
received a note from Roland Klein indicating that he has now walked
all 50 states. He is the person from the St. Louis area who did a lot
of interpreting on the Germany/Austria trip.
As an estimate, there
are about 250 members of the Dairyland Walkers.
Walk Reports
(Russ Crane)
There were 66 walkers
at the St. Anne’s Hill walk in Plain.
The East Madison
Parks walk had 48 walkers.
Election of

Tom was the chairman
of the nominating committee and he presented the following slate of
officers for 2005:
Co-Presidents –
LaVonne and Tom McCrill
Vice President – Ron Moore

Member at Large – Barb Borde
There were no other

presented. The officers will take their positions effective January
1, 2005.
Update on the
Sparks (Tom Doyle)
As far as Tom knew,
the Sparks are now in the state of Mississippi. They have been
playing a lot of bridge and have done some AVA walks.
The business meeting
was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

The following people
gave short talks on the different walks that we did in Germany and
Austria:

Future Trip? (Barb Borde)
In looking through a
travel catalog, Barb thought that perhaps if we did another trip,
Holland and Belgium might be nice places to go to. She got a round of
applause for all the work she put into the Germany/Austria trip.
Membership Meeting
(Tom McCrill)
The next membership
meeting will be held on December 5 at the Hilldale Mall. People may
want to arrive before 5:00 so they can look at the decorated trees and
listen to any musical entertainment there may happen to be.
The meeting adjourned
at 8:45 p.m.
