Presentation
Tom McCrill started
the meeting at 7:02 p.m., and then Barb Borde introduced Elke
Austin-Foote from Ed-Ventures, Inc., who was the tour director on the
club's European trip last September. Elke gave a slide program,
highlighting some of the places she would suggest for the club to go
for a possible trip in April of 2006. This would include northern
Germany, some World War II museums, the Netherlands, Belgium,
Luxemburg, and then flying home from Zurich. One of the purposes of
going at this time would be to see the tulips in bloom in the
Netherlands, although nothing is guaranteed due to the weather. The
weather may be better later in the month. A possible way to reduce
the cost of the trip would be to not include prearranged dinners for
every day. She would like to try to get 25 people for this trip.
When would this trip
take place? Next year, Easter falls on April 17, and she would
suggest leaving on a Thursday and arriving on a Friday, for a 14 day
trip.
For those people like
teachers who might have spring break during that time, there might be
a possibility of them being on the trip for ten days instead of 14.
Any questions or
suggestions may be addressed to Barb Borde, who will be the point of
contact.
The presentation
ended at 7:50 p.m.
Meeting
The meeting began at
8:00, with Tom McCrill indicating that Karen Reger had paper copies
available of the last membership meeting minutes of December 5, 2004,
and everyone was welcome to look at them.
Treasurer's
Report (Russ Crane)
The balance as of the
last Board meeting (March 15) was $1,411.30. Since that time, income
has totaled $14,388.00, the vast majority of which was due to money
coming in for the Eau Claire and Crazy Horse bus trips. Expenses have
totaled $1,258.92, most of which have also been related to the
above-mentioned bus trips. The current balance is $14,540.38, of
which $12,740.00 is committed to the Crazy Horse trip, leaving an
uncommitted balance of $1,800.38.
This report was
accepted.
Syttende Mai
Training Group Walks (Tom Doyle)
Tom indicated that
six people did the training walk on April 17. They combined the Civil
War and the Capitol walks, doing a figure eight. He would like to do
another training walk, walking the bike route around Lake Monona. He
mentioned May 7 or 8, and it was pointed out that the 8th was Mother's
Day, so it would probably be on Saturday, the 7th.
Highway Clean-up
Report (Tom Doyle)
Fourteen people
showed up this past Saturday to do the highway clean-up.
Crazy Horse Bus
Trip (June Doyle)
Forty-two people are
planning on taking the trip. June had passed around a notebook
containing highlights of the upcoming trip. In May she will send out
instructions and a final itinerary. If any questions arise, please
contact her.
Tuesday Evening
Walk-a-Week (Tom McCrill)
This program will
begin for the year next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., meeting at the Vilas
Park Beach House to do the Arboretum walk.
Janesville
Kick-off Walk (Bonnie Hamer)
The kick-off event
for the new seasonal walk in Janesville will take place next Sunday,
starting from the Rotary Gardens at 1:00. Six people have already
done the walk. We have permission to go through the gardens and it is
not required that we pay the suggested $5.00 donation. The regular
starting point for this walk will be the Stop 'n Go. Walking will be
done in groups, depending on how many people there are and the
different speeds to be accommodated.
The Ft. Atkinson walk
will be held on May 28 and Bonnie passed around a volunteer sign-up
sheet for this event.
Club T-shirts,
etc. (Tom Doyle / LaVonne McCrill)
They are in the
process of looking into possibly ordering hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts,
polo shirts, etc. They are looking at both silk screening and
embroidery.
Club Trifold
Display
Russ Crane had
brought along the display that he and Don Stoffels had worked on for
Canoecopia. Bruce Dewey suggested that perhaps it could be displayed
at other places. Health fairs were mentioned as a possible venue.
Tom Doyle mentioned that he has another similar empty display board
that could also be used.
Program Committee
(Ron Moore)
Ron indicated that
Chris Borleske had agreed to help. Volunteers are certainly welcome.
Tom Doyle indicated that member Sharon Bloodgood could perhaps give a
presentation but she would not be available in June but maybe in
August or October.
Board Meeting
The next Board
meeting will be on May 5 at the Dean Clinic on Stoughton Road.
The meeting then
ended at 8:17 p.m. Thanks to the McCrills for bringing cookies and
beverages.
