DAIRYLAND WALKERS BIMONTHLY MEETING
HOME OF TOM AND LA VONNE MC CRILL
JULY 13, 2005
Officers Present: Tom and LaVonne McCrill (Co-Presidents);
Russ Crane (Treasurer);
Karen Reger (Secretary); Barb Borde (Member at Large)
Convention Report (Gwen
Kraemer)
Gwen gave a presentation on the recent
AVA convention, where she was the club delegate. She briefly
described the various walks that she did with the Doyles and Bruce
Dewey. During some of the walks, they met up with Jill Ruef, Karen
Reger, and Russ Crane. She displayed her convention name tag as well
as the convention patch. She indicated that the convention itself was
great and that she took as many workshops as she could and enjoyed
them very much. The next convention will be in Sacramento in 2007,
and in Texas in 2009.
Walks and Supper
Tom McCrill then led a group of people
on a short walk, and LaVonne McCrill led another group on a flower
walk. There then ensued a potluck supper.
Club Meeting
Attendance: Approximately 40
Tom McCrill started the meeting at 8:12
p.m.
Secretary's Report (Karen
Reger)
There were paper copies of the minutes
of the last membership meeting of April 18 on a table. These minutes
were accepted with no discussion. There were also copies available of
the minutes of the last Board meeting of May 5.
Treasurer's Report (Russ Crane)
The balance at the last Board meeting
on May 5 was $7,003.65. Since that time, income has totaled
$6,000.00.
Expenses have totaled $10,857.29. The vast majority of both figures
are related to the Crazy Horse bus trip. The balance at present is
$2,146.36.
This report was accepted.
T-shirt Fundraiser
(Tom Doyle)
A supply of club shirts had been
brought along and were available for sale.
Crazy
Horse Trip Report/Niagara Falls Proposal
(June Doyle)
Forty-two people went on this trip. The Hearty Sole Walkers
newsletter had a very nice article about this event, which perhaps
could be put in our next newsletter. She thanked all the people that
made the trip a success, and was given a round of applause for
all her hard work.
A bus trip is being planned for
Niagara Falls for 2006,
in the latter part of June. It will be about six days in length, over
a weekend. She pointed out a display of pictures from the
Crazy Horse trip, as well as an article from the
Capital Times featuring
Bruce Dewey.
Upcoming Events
(Don Suloff)
Don indicated that walks don't happen without a lot of help, and he
passed around sign-up sheets
for the Stoughton
and Sugar River walks. The Coffee Break Festival walk in Stoughton
will be on August 20, not the 13th.
He set out flyers for this walk since it will not be inserted in a
newsletter.
The award for the Sugar River Trail
walk will be a patch. Metal brads will be inserted for each of the
three years (2005, 2006, and 2007) that the walk will be held.
2006 European Trip Update
(Barb Borde)
Brochures
for this trip were
included in the last newsletter. There are tentatively 15-16
interested in the trip, with a lot of them being repeaters from the
trip last year.
Walk and Eat Gang
Changes in the schedule
were indicated in the last newsletter. The
Waupun
and Lake Geneva walks
had to be switched around.
Russ indicated that these changes are on the website, which he tries
to keep as up to date as possible. He encouraged people
to check it out.
Convention
Awards
(Tom Doyle)
Tom indicated that our club got recognition in two areas at the recent
convention. The year-round and seasonal event
brochure (compiled by Bruce Dewey) received
an honorary
mention, and the website
(maintained by Russ Crane) received a gold medal
award.
Introductions
Since there were some new faces,
everyone introduced themselves.
Coffee Break Walk in Stoughton (Paula Romeo)
She and Victor Emanuel have been planning this walk. Stoughton has
some excellent brochures giving information about various historic
districts. The coffee break supposedly started in Stoughton,
so the walk will be held during their annual Coffee Break Festival.
It will start and finish inside the Senior Center.
Closing Item
Chief Chef Tom Doyle was given a round
of applause for cooking the brats and hamburgers.
The meeting was then adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Submitted by Karen Reger, Secretary.
