The course takes you through part of Madison’s near west neighborhood of Nakoma, originally built as Madison’s first suburb.  You will see several examples of four different architectural styles in structures dating from 1854 – the last remaining 19th century farmhouse in Nakoma, several houses built during the 1920’s heyday, a 1941 structure designed by one of Nakoma’s best and most prolific residential architects of the 20s and 30s.  The 10 K route will contain the added bonus of a stroll through Forest Hill Cemetery where you will visit the gravesites of young Confederate soldiers who died on Wisconsin soil – and that of the woman who tended their graves for years.
